Adelaide adopts waterless carwash pioneer
Friday, 1 February 2008
With water restrictions and water saving measures being enforced everywhere, Adelaide's Paul McIlvride is happy that his unique car washing business does not use any water at all.
“Rather than use, we actually save water - to the tune of up to 70 litres per wash compared to traditional techniques," said Paul, who is the master-franchisee for ecowash mobile for South Australia.
Aware of the growing water shortage in South Australia, he wanted to help establish a business that is not only environmentally friendly, but focuses on sustainability and low impact especially in regards to water consumption. When he learned of the ecowash mobile waterless car wash concept he inspected the system thoroughly and simply fell in love with it.
Hailed as the car washing system of the future, ecowash mobile South Australia has grown to a four car operation since commencing April 2007.
“This is also due to the fact that motorists are actually aware of the water issue and do want to do the right thing” said Paul.
Approved under Smart Watermark, Australia's body for minimising water usage in business and especially out-doors, Paul's ecowash mobile is trying to encourage others to follow suit and be more water-conscious. “Going by South Australian Water, 55% of water is used out-doors, this makes it important to think about every drop we use”, Paul said. ‘I would love to see more ethical and environmentally committed business people to join in the mission of reducing this percentage.
“The mobile aspect of this business (covering Adelaide Metro to 1hr radius of the city and even the Barossa) is also part of the reason for the success” he added. “And being part of Greenfleet and off-setting the carbon of the fleet is yet another aspect to the environmental soundness of his operation”.
“Nobody wants to spend their weekends washing their car these days. And, with the continuing water shortage, we shouldn't use water either.” Ecowash mobile uses its 2-in-1 polymer compound which actually encloses the dirt particles to prevent scratching, unlike water which is in fact a poor lubricant. The formula is not only environmentally friendly and water saving, but protects the paint work of the vehicle against the elements at the same time.
